About the Founder
Dragon Slayer Enterprises was founded by Detective Matt Maxwell, a career investigator with over two decades of law enforcement experience specializing in homicide, narcotics, officer-involved shooting, and major-crime investigations. Matt has dedicated his professional life to uncovering the truth, building cases with precision, and teaching others how to do the same.
A graduate of the University of San Diego, Matt holds a Master of Science in Law Enforcement and Public Safety Leadership. This program sharpened his strategic, ethical, and analytical approach to modern policing. He is also a California POST-certified and STC-certified instructor who has been teaching since 2010. He teaches at the local Police Academy and nationally on a contract basis with Police Technical.
In addition to his investigative work, Matt proudly serves on his department’s Honor Guard and Crisis Negotiations Team, representing the highest standards of professionalism, composure, and compassion under pressure. These assignments—along with years of field experience—inform his approach to leadership, communication, and critical decision-making in every training environment.
Matt founded DSE with a simple philosophy: practical training should challenge, not bore. After sitting through countless law-enforcement courses, he noticed which ones sparked growth—and which ones missed the mark. That perspective drives the way he builds his classes today: interactive, scenario-driven, and infused with real-world context. His instruction emphasizes practical skills that can be immediately applied in the field, supported by innovative technology and a touch of humor to keep students engaged.
Outside of work, Matt is a husband, dog dad, and outdoors enthusiast who believes balance and curiosity are essential traits of any lifelong learner. Whether in the classroom or on the street, he brings authenticity, energy, and a genuine commitment to helping others excel.
When you train with Dragon Slayer Enterprises, you’re not just taking another class—you’re learning from someone who has lived the work, mastered the craft, and knows how to make training matter.
